Plastics Moulding

How long will hot dogs stay good after you remove them from the plastic packaging and put them in the fridge?

I bought hot dogs 2 weeks ago and opened them when I bought them. On the packaging it says good until 12/1/08. If I keep them in a container in my fridge, is it just like being in its original packaging and I can eat them up until 12/1/08? Or is it once the plastic is opened then I only have a few days to eat them before they go bad?

  1. I like to take the Dogs out of the package and wrap them in Foil. I have kept them for weeks before eating.
  2. If they're all natural hot dogs, then I'd toss them after a week or 10 days, but if they've got preservatives in them (probably nitrites) then they should be good until they start to smell bad. Maybe 3 weeks to a month.
  3. You're supposed to eat them within 7 days after opening the package. The date on the package is how long they will remain good without opening it. To keep hot dogs longer, you can keep them in the freezer and they reheat just fine. You can keep them in the freezer for about 2 months after opening them.
  4. Once the package is opened you should eat them within a few days. Meat usually lasts 3 days in fridge, but hot dogs have a lot of preservatives so probably they last longer. If they get slimy or smell funky get rid of them. Good until 12/1/08 is before the package is opened. I keep hot dogs in the freezer, take a few out as needed.
