The use of plastic in the medical field has been increasing dramatically, and is expected to raise in coming years: disposable plastic products like bags for IV solutions, disposable syringes, adult diapers, tubing, etc. etc. These products increase the amount of solid waste that has to be incinerated (creating air pollution) or buried, and consume oil to produce these plastics. Biodegradable products, on the other side, can be composted or easily degraded, and can be produced of agricultural crops like corn, sugar cane, etc..
